Dr. Cohen is the President and the Founder of the Neurosurgical Atlas (Atlas). He is also a Professor at Indiana University Health Department of Neurosurgery.
The Atlas reflects the surgical experience of Dr. Cohen with more than 5500 complex brain operations over 16 years. The Atlas is the most trusted, respected and comprehensive educational resource for introduction of complex brain operations in the world. The Atlas is also considered the Bible of Neurosurgery and many countries depend on the Atlas for the care of their patients.
Dr. Cohen has developed and refined minimally invasive techniques to remove brain tumors via endoscopic techniques (through the nose.) This form of surgery avoids opening of the skull and leads to better outcomes and faster recovery. He has also refined intraoperative fluorescent technologies to maximize removal of brain tumors and improve patients' survival. His surgical philosophy focuses on efficient and minimally invasive surgery based on the fundamental principle that his true passion for technical excellence yields unparalleled surgical results.
He has published over 510 publications on the aforementioned topics and serves as the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Neurosurgical Focus, a highly reputable journal in the field of neurosurgery. Dr. Cohen has been voted the Health Care Hero of the Year in the State of Indiana for leading the efforts to advance surgical care of brain tumors previously considered inoperable. In addition to his desire to heal, he is driven to perfect new and innovative brain surgeries to ensure the least possible harm and the greatest possible benefits to patients. “The pursuit of technical excellence in neurosurgery is a passion and not a job. My philosophy has always been to do the best anyone can, rather than do the best I can.”
